Myths and Facts

Myth: The D15CP are unhappy parents who belong to tax watch groups.
Fact
: The D15CP is comprised of many parents who reside in all areas of D15.  We are not unhappy people looking to make everyone unhappy around us.  We are parents who are vigilant and informed and involved.  We do not accept the spin that District officials, Union officials, Board members and others try to feed us at face value.  We educate ourselves on the issues and then proceed accordingly.  We believe every group has a right to voice their opinions.

Myth: The D15CP does not respect the teachers or what they do.
Fact:
The D15CP respects the teaching profession and the men and women who have chosen this calling.  We believe  like parents and parenting, teachers and teaching are priceless.  We volunteer in the schools to assist the teachers in their endeavors to provide quality education to our children.  We appreciate the special demands our teachers face on a daily basis and we support our teachers.

Myth: The D15CP wanted a strike during the last negotiation session (2006).
Fact:
The D15CP never advocated for a strike.  We believed and still believe a strike should never be an option in fair negotiations. It is never appropriate to hold our children and their futures hostage.  We consistently advocated for a fair and reasonable contract that would reflect the community served.

Myth: Quality education is ensured with high teacher salaries.
Fact: Quality education is not just about salaries.  It is about quality tools in the classroom, comprehensive and up-to-date curriculums, state of the art technology, qualified and dedicated staff members and an active, supportive parent base. Fiscal responsibility is the first step in this process.  It is not wise to spend all your resources in one area while other areas suffer or are cut.  With finite resources, every area needs to be evaluated and fairly maintained.
