ADDITIONAL CONTRACT DETAILS

Additional Contract Changes

1.  Teachers and students school year is reduced by 3 days by the 2008/2009 school year.
2006/2007 = 1 less day for 185 days, 2007/2008 = 1  less day for 184 days, 2008-2009 = 1 less day for 183 days.
The school year will change from 186 days to 183 days.  By the 3rd year, this will equate to 1.62% less work per year.

2
.  Compared to the last contract, teachers receive an additional 30 minutes per week as planning time. This means that students will see their classroom teachers 30 minutes less per week, or roughly 18 hours less per school year. District will have to add additional staff to provide programs to fill this time.

3
.  According to the CTC, 73% of D15 teachers have advanced degrees beyond the Bachelor level. Under the new contract, tuition reimbursement has increased from $1000 to $1250 per year.  This is a 25% increase. There is no cap on the number of employees who can take advantage of this benefit. CTC members may now take an additional 3 credit hours of internet courses toward lane movement. This is up to 12 hours from 9 hours offered previously.

4
.  According to the CTC, D15 employs 82 National Board Certified teachers (the highest number in IL outside of the Chicago Public School System).  Unlike other districts, D15 provides the following incentive:  After a teacher becomes certified, they receive $2500 a year for 10 years.  This amount is matched by the state at $3000 a year for 10 years.  Certificates can be renewed every 10 years and the above will still apply.

5
.  Previously, personnel files were expunged every 3 years of any disciplinary actions brought against a teacher.  Under the new contract, to provide for increased student safety, these items will now remain in the personnel file indefinitely

6
.  Union members still receive 12 sick days and 3 personal days but there is more flexibility allowed for how these days may be used. Sick days and personal days accrue yearly.
