DISTRICT 15 CONCERNED PARENTS

Who are we?  We are parents and community members that originally joined together in response to the 2006 contract negotiations between District 15 and the CTC Teachers Union.  We also attend board meetings, watch them on TV and investigate and research issues that come before the board. We advocate for our children by insisting on quality education for all and fiscally responsible decisions. We are the parents you see everyday and we are active in our schools.

Purpose:  To become a unified voice for all D15 parents and community members. To advocate for our children and their educational futures through fiscal responsibility. To work with the elected school board members to promote this.

Goal:  To facilitate the flow of accurate and timely information regarding district decisions that directly affect our children. To promote excellence in our district through community involvement and to provide and share accurate information on key issues that affect our children.

Position Statement:  We believe that fiscal responsibility will ensure quality education in our district.

Beliefs:

·        The District 15 teachers are valued, appreciated, and highly thought of

·        The District 15 teachers are well paid and well compensated with a good benefits package

·        Quality counts, but children MUST count first

·        A strike should never be an option

·        The Boards position on matters concerning district spending should not be considered personal and is not a reflection of the appreciation or respect that the Board holds for its teachers.  It is a reflection of the current economy and finite budgetary resources.

·        Quality education can be maintained through fiscal responsibility and integrity

·        All stakeholders must be considered. Parents should have a voice.  Transparency is important.

·        Parents must stay educated and updated on the affairs of the district

 Actions:

·        Parents should contact the Board of Education to ask questions, express concerns and show support for fiscally responsible decisions and oppose those decisions that don't provide long term support for educational programs.  Let them know you are a concerned parent.  ChapmanG@ccsd15.net, BloomM@ccsd15.net, EkebergJ@ccsd15.net, BabcockM@ccsd15.net, MillarT@ccsd15.net, BokorR@ccsd15.net, QuinnS@ccsd15.net.

·        Parents should contact the CTC to ask questions, express concerns and communicate opinions to the CTC regarding their role in providing fiscally responsible quality education. www.ctcteachers.com.

·        Parents should write clear non-emotional letters to the editors of local papers expressing their opinions and support of a fiscally responsible district

·        IMPORTANT - Attend Board of Education meetings.
